Higher Degree Research Candidature
It is your responsibility to manage your research degree candidature at UTS. The categories below will enable you to do this effectively:
Change to Candidature
If you need to change your address, thesis topic, attendance pattern or supervisor you must submit a change to candidature form.
Leave of Absence
Students wishing to withdraw temporarily from a course must lodge a leave of absence form no later than the census date of the teaching period for which leave is being sought. Please refer to the rules regarding leave of absence before submitting your application.
Progress Reports
All students enrolled in time based subjects must submit a Progress Report Form for the enrolled semester.The progress reports are mailed to the students by the University Graduate School around the 16th week of semester. Completed progress reports duly signed by the students and the supervisor must be submitted to the Faculty's Research Administrator by the due date.
Doctoral Assessment or Master's by Thesis Assessment
All high degree research students are required to submit themselves to a Faculty Panel for Doctoral assessment or Master's by Thesis assessment, please refer to the Doctoral assessment or Master's by Thesis assessment rules. You will also need to refer to the candidature assessment procedures.
Research Information Form
You must complete the Postgraduate Students Research Information Form prior to commencing your research. You should fill out this form with the help of your supervisor and submit it to the Faculty's Research Administrator.
Transfers
High degree research candidates may transfer from a Masters degree to a Doctoral degree or vice versa. You must submit a Course Transfer Form.
Extension of Candidature
Candidates can request for extension to their candidature if their research has been interrupted by circumstances beyond their control. Please refer to the rules regarding extension of candidature, if you are eligible you will need to submit a Extension of Candidature Form.
Withdrawal of Candidature
Students who wish to withdraw from their course must lodge a written application with the Registrar. Please refer to the rules regarding withdrawal from a course. You will need to submit a withdrawal application.
Examination
Two to three months before you expect you to complete your thesis, you are required to complete a notification of intention to submit a thesis form and submit the form to the University Graduate School.
