Manfred Lachs Space Law Moot Competition
The subject area for this Moot is Public International Law, specifically as it relates to the law of outer space.
The Lachs Moot began in 1992 and is organised annually by the International Institute of Space Law (I.I.S.L.). Each year, the winners of the Asia Pacific, European and North American Regional Rounds compete in the world finals, held in conjunction with the annual International Astronautical Congress and the Colloquium on the Law of Outer Space.
The Lachs Moot has the distinction of having its world final judged each year by three sitting members of the International Court of Justice.
The Asia-Pacific rounds are held in Sydney each year in April and the winning team from the Asia-Pacific rounds compete in the World Final in October each year.
A team of 3 students is chosen late in the preceding year to represent the faculty.
Academic Requisite:
To take part in this moot, it is strongly desirable that you have studied (or are studying) Public International Law.
The team is coached by Sharna Clemmett who last year as 1st time coach (after several moots as a competitor) got the UTS team into the semi finals which is the best ever result for UTS in the Space Moot Competition.
