Practical experience
The practical experience work placement is a essential requirement of the UTS: Law practical legal training (PLT) program.
Undertaking your practical experience work placement
To undertake you practical experience you must enrol in the subject 75411 Practical Experience.
On successful completion of the practical experience placement a pass grade will be applied against this subject.
Prior to completing your form you should download the Introduction for Practitioner Supervisors letter for the advice of your prospective supervisor.
Follow the following steps to complete your practical experience work placement:
Step 1. Apply practical experience approval.
Applications must be received at the Faculty on the Friday preceeding the Practical Experience Committee Meeting date*. Meeting dates for the Practical Experience Committee in 2013 are:

*These meetings have been scheduled to coincide with the university's deadline for students to be set to "Passed" for graduation purposes. These meetings have not been scheduled to coincide with the LPAB's application deadlines for admission purposes.
Please note that the 2013 meetings are to be held on Tuesdays. Documents for each meeting must be lodged by the preceding Friday to the PE Officer, Faculty of Law
Step 2. Await approval from the practical experience committee
Step 3. Inform the practical experience committee of your practical experience completion
Step 4. Apply for admission to NSW Legal Profession Admission Board (LPAB)
Practical experience rules
The UTS: Law practical experience rules relating to 75411 Practical Experience are accredited by the Legal Profession Admission Board (LPAB) of NSW. The rules include important information regarding:
- length of practical experience,
- work to be experienced,
- suitable supervisor's and organisations,
- pre-practical legal training practical placement approval, and
- practical experience completion deadlines.
These rules should be read by both the student (applicant) and supervisor.
