UTS: Law

Welcome to the Faculty of Law

Professor Lesley Hitchens
Dean, Faculty of Law

As the only law school in New South Wales located in the heart of Sydney, the UTS Faculty of Law has outstanding links with the community and the legal profession in the city. Our graduates find themselves not only practising law in the most prestigious city firms but also forging careers in all the various contexts, both local and international, for which a legal education equips you.

We are a law faculty which takes very seriously the task of providing an excellent, internationally-recognised legal education. To mark our outstanding achievements in teaching, UTS was awarded significant funding from the Federal Government’s Teaching and Learning Performance Fund in 2007, 2008 and 2009. This recognition is in part due to highest possible ranking given to the Law and Business Faculties. Law has used some of this funding to ensure our curriculum is at the very forefront of legal education. This means that UTS: Law students graduate with a strong set of legal skills and an appreciation of the social, moral and global context in which law operates. Whether you are studying at undergraduate or postgraduate level you will find that the UTS: Law programs offer several distinctive aspects, including a strong professional core, a focus on the development of professional skills and a willingness to accommodate the needs of our diverse range of students, particularly those in employment.

The Faculty is the home of AustLII (opens an external site), the Communications Law Centre and Anti-Slavery Australia (opens an external site), and you will have the opportunity to engage with the external community through these research and outreach centres of the faculty. In addition in 2009 UTS was announced as the headquarters for the new Creative Industries Innovation Centre, which aims to increase the competitiveness, profitability, productivity and innovation of Australia’s creative industries by allowing creative people to bring together innovation, technology, business and creativity. As a law student at UTS you can help 'own the future' by becoming involved in all the opportunities available here.

We hope you will enjoy the city location and vibrant community around UTS Faculty of Law and wish you every success for an enjoyable and productive time with us.
