NSW Bar Exam Preparation Courses

UTS: Law offers three preparation courses twice yearly for those intending to sit the NSW Bar Association Entrance exams. Enrolment in these courses is not a prerequisite to sit the exams, nor does participation guarantee success. However, the pass rate of participants in the UTS: Law preparation courses have on average been significantly higher pass rate than those who sit the exams without the benefit of the preparation courses.

Courses

The following courses are held January and June every year. Both weekend and evening sessions are offered, subject to availability. Class are limited to approximately 25 students to facilitate interactive sessions. Registrations are available on a first-come, first-serve basis. 

Two practicing barristers take students through past exams and highlight salient issues in the Bar Association's exam reading list. Students are provided with handouts and are encouraged to bring their questions to the sessions.

Presenters

Darien Nagle, Barrister

Darien Nagle is a member of HB Higgins Chambers. He has been a member of the NSW Bar since 2007. He practises in the area of Industrial and Commercial Law. Darien has appeared in hearings in the Industrial Court, Supreme Court, Federal Court and other jurisdictions in NSW. He has taught the UTS Prep course since 2008.

Daniel Tynan, Barrister

Daniel Tynan is a barrister on 12th Floor Wentworth-Selborne Chambers. He has been a member of the NSW Bar since 2008. He practices in competition law and commercial law. He has appeared in hearings in the Supreme Court, Federal Court and other jurisdictions in NSW. He has taught the UTS Preparation Course since 2008. He also lectures on a part-time basis at Sydney University.

Aspects of Evidence and Practice and Procedure can be taken as either a weeknight or all-day Saturday courses.  If you can attend a weeknight course, we recommend that you choose this option and enjoy the benefits of a smaller group as the Saturday courses are very popular.

Enrol in all three courses (any combination) and receive a 10% discount: $1215 (inc GST)

Alumni enrolling in fewer than three courses are entitled to a 10% discount on any individual course.

The maximum discount offered any any registration is 10%. If you are an Alumni and you choose to register in all three courses, you are only eligible for a single 10% discount, not the multiple subject discount plus an alumni discount.

Registering in all three courses

To register in all three courses and take advantage of the 10% discount, you must enrol individually in all of them within two hours of your first course registration. Please select the Multiple Subject Discount discount option each time you register in a course.  The system will remember your contact details but not your credit card information for each enrolment. You will receive an automated confirmation of your enrolments(s). If you enrol in three courses, you should receive an acknowledgement for each course (ie, three acknowledgments total).

Example

If you want to enrol in the weeknights Aspects of Evidence course, the Saturday Practice and Procedure course and the Legal Ethics course:

  1. Open the course entitled ‘NSW Bar Exam Preparation: Aspects of Evidence – Weeknights (June 2012)’ and register;
  2. Make sure that you select the ‘Multiple Subject Discount’ option when registering your details;
  3. Go back and then register in the course entitled ‘NSW Bar Exam Preparation: Practice and Procedure for Barristers – Saturday (June 2012)’;
  4. Again, make sure that you select the ‘Multiple Subject Discount’ option when registering your details;
  5. Go back and then register in the course entitled ‘NSW Bar Exam Preparation: Legal Ethics for Barristers - Saturday (June 2012)’;
  6. Again, make sure that you select the ‘Multiple Subject Discount’ option when registering your details.
