LEGAL RESEARCH

Course:

This course is designed to provide a refresher course for legal researchers as well as providing the inexperienced legal researcher with the knowledge and an understanding of the nature of materials associated with legal research. While giving some generalised background material it also will examine some of the legal publications in depth.

This course will cover sources including AustLII, LexisNexisAU, LBC Online, Westlaw and Comlaw. It will also look at specific resources such as citators and statute annotators as well as covering how to search cases and legislation.  

Presenters:

Francis Johns BA (Hon), LLM (Syd)

Francis Johns has been the academic co-ordinator for the UTS LLB subjects Legal Research, Personal Property and Commercial Law.  Prior to teaching at UTS, Francis was at LexisNexis for ten years. While at LexisNexis, his roles included editing Halsbury's Laws of Australia; overseeing the commissioning of new texts, and in his final years there managing the Lexis.com business for Australia and New Zealand
