2 Day Level One Collaborative Practice Courses

The Collaborative Law process is at the cutting edge of law practice today using an innovative cooperative problem solving approach to settle conflicts.

to gain a working understanding of collaborative law practice and the basic skills to practice as a collaborative professional.

Level One Collaborative Practice

Participants will learn:

  • the guiding principles of  collaborative practice
  • the shift from conventional 'rights-based' process to a client centred 'goal-focused' approach
  • the steps and stages of conducting a collaborative case
  • the kinds of cases that can be handled successfully using collaborative practice
  • how to begin practising as a collaborative professional.

Presenters

Marilyn Scott, a practising solicitor and mediator. Marilyn is a specialist lecturer and trainer in Dispute Resolution and Collaborative law at UTS. Marilyn is a Vice -President of Collaborative Professionals (NSW) Inc and pioneered Collaborative Law training in NSW and Queensland.

Paul Lewis is an Accredited Specialist in Family Law, an experienced mediator and a principal of Robyn Sexton & Associates, Kirribilli. Paul is a past President of ADRA Inc. and regularly writes in the area of dispute resolution. He is currently the President of the Northern Sydney Collaborative Practitioners Group.

Irene Pickel has been a solicitor since 1980. She became an Accredited Specialist in Family Law in 1994. She has completed mediation courses through Bond University. In August 2005 she completed the basic collaborative training course in Sydney conducted by Stuart Webb (USA) and Marion Korn (Canada). Irene has completed over 30 collaborative matters and also uses many of the collaborative techniques in her other matters. In July 2006 Irene undertook the advanced training in Collaborative Practice and in February 2007 attended the three day interdisciplinary collaborative team training. She is a member of the International Academy of Collaborative Professionals (IACP) and is on the Board of Collaborative Professionals (NSW) Inc.

Meredith Hatton has been a practicing solicitor since 1997.  After working at the AAT and in Sydney she relocated to Bowral in 1999 where she has worked for Philip Boyce & Associates and is now Senior Associate. A significant portion of her practice has been in the area of Family Law. In August 2005 she completed the basic collaborative training course given by Stu Webb (USA) and Marion Korn (Canada). In June 2006, Meredith completed the advanced training in Collaborative Practice once again presented by Marion Korn. To date she has completed in excess of 20 collaborative matters and the practice continues to grow. Meredith is a member of the International Academy of Collaborative Professionals (IACP) and is on the Board of Collaborative Professionals (NSW) Inc.

Accreditation

This training meets the requirements of Collaborative Professionals (NSW) Inc for inclusion on the website as a collaborative professional.

Satisfies requirements for one MCLE unit for each hour of participation in the course.
