Academic Profile

Vedna Jivan joined the Faculty in 2004, having previously taught at UNSW and been a solicitor/clinical supervisor in the clincal teaching facility of the Faculty of Law, Kingsford Legal Centre, for eight years. Vedna was Director of the Practical Legal Training (PLT) Program at UTS 2004- 2005.

Her research areas include women's human rights (particularly in the Asia Pacific region), Tort Law, legal education and the scope and limitations of the legal system to achieve social change. She has worked on research projects with a variety of leading women's human rights organisations in the Asia Pacific region (including UNIFEM, the Asia Pacific Forum on Women Law and Development and the United Nations Development Fund) and participated in several United Nations conferences.  Vedna has been an adviser to various domestic and regional organizations and has researched university legal clinics and community legal education programs in India, Fiji Thailand and Sri Lanka.

Vedna has taught in a range of subjects at UTS and at UNSW and is a joint recipient of the UNSW Vice Chancellor's Award for Teaching Excellence and the Australian Universities Teaching Award.
