Academic Profile

Dr Stathis Palassis joined the Law Faculty in 2002 after completing his doctoral studies on issues surrounding liability and compensation for marine pollution damage. Prior to that, Dr Palassis was an adjunct lecturer at UNSW and a commercial litigator specializing in maritime and environmental law.

He has degrees from the universities of Western Australia and Sydney and has written and taught primarily in international law. In addition to teaching extensively in specialist electives, Dr Palassis has been Director of the Faculty's Postgraduate program.

Stathis has a strong commitment to legal education and has been coach of national and international award-winning Jessup and Stetson moot teams. He has recently completed his Graduate Certificate in Higher Education Teaching and Learning studies.

Australian implementation of international marine pollution law.

Sustainable development and marine pollution.

Compensation and other restorative justice for victims of international crimes.

Regionalism and international criminal justice in the Balkan States.
