Academic Profile

Jim Cooper's teaching and research is primarily in the area of intellectual property and communications technology (especially the impact of digital technology and convergence on the entertainment industries). Jim is also currently involved in teaching and coordinating Tax Law subjects within the UTS Bachelor of Business degree.

He has had a broad range of experience in cross-cultural teaching and has been involved in developing and coordinating subjects for overseas students under the UTS Insearch pathway programs. Jim has taught in Kuala Lumpur and Shanghai under these programs.

He has also undertaken legal consulting with a wide range of organizations including the ABC, Lloyd Hart Entertainment Lawyers, the Australian Institute of Music and the National Art School.

Current Research Activities

Convergence and its impact on the regulatory framework of the media and communications industry (especially the impact of new platforms for the delivery of music and film)
