Academic Profile

David Hipsley joined UTS in 1995 as a foundation member of the Faculty's unique in-house Practical Legal Training (PLT) program.

Admitted to the Bar in 1985, David had practiced largely in the areas of professional misconduct and discipline involving solicitors and the Law Society. This had particular relevance to his later teaching of the Professional Conduct subjects at UTS. He was also Director, Practical Legal Training Program 2002- 2004 and retains a current practicing certificate as a barrister.

David recently completed his Masters in Dispute Resolution (with a particular focus on mediation in the private sector). He has also undertaken specialist training in the NSW Legal Aid, Family Law Conferencing and Collaborative Law programs and is an accredited Lifeline Counselor. In 2005, building on the above training and his study of US and Canadian experience in family dispute resolution, he took a lead role in establishing a pro bono legal service at the Gosford Family Support Centre.
