Academic Profile 

Professor David Barker has been involved in legal education for 34 years, both in the UK and Australia. He was Dean of UTS:LAW from 1997 to 2005 (Feb). David was previously Dean of the Faculty of Law at the University of Westminster (UK) 1983-86.

Professor Barker has held the position of Chair of the Council of Australian Law Deans 2003-04 and the Chair of the Australasian Law Teachers Association (ALTA) 1999-2002, having previously served as President 1996-1997. His international positions have included membership of the Fiji Legal Education Board and adviser to University of the South Pacific Law School. He is currently a member of the Executive Committee of the Commonwealth Legal Education Association.

In 2002, as a member of the Business Law and Ethics Teaching Team, David was recipient of a UTS Teaching Award.

In the Queen's Birthday 2006 Honours List, Professor Barker was made a Member of the Order of Australia (AM) - the citation stated: "For service to legal education in Australia and the Pacific region, to professional associations and to the community".
