UTS:LAW 30th Anniversary :: 1977-2007
Celebrating our achievements and looking forward to the future...
UTS Faculty of Law was founded in 1977 and in 2007 we will celebrated our achievements.
2007 saw us preparing for the introduction of our new curriculum from 2008 following a major review. While preserving the best of the existing program the new curriculum will ensure that the UTS Law program maintains our excellent reputation and relevance. We asked 'what is it that a law graduate in the 21st Century needs? How do we equip students for a life increasingly reliant on understanding a global environment? What is it that we can offer that other law schools may not?' In answering this much attention has been focused on the opportunity to ensure that UTS graduates will continue to be sought after by employers who value the graduate attributes developed in the law course, including the ability to problem solve, which is a mark of an excellent graduate.
As part of our 30th Anniversary year events, we held a lunchtime research seminar series that introduced interesting and at times controversial speakers. All were welcome to attend. During the second half of the year we held special forums at which eminent speakers from the legal profession were asked to reflect on the contribution of the academy to practice, and the other side of the coin being the impact of the professional practice of law on research. These themes are both highly relevant to UTS:LAW as we continue to build strong links with the profession, and develop our external engagement strategy through the formation of the new Law Executive Council, which met for the first time early in 2007.
As UTS:LAW enters the next phase of our development we are focusing to a greater extent on building and maintaining relationships with our Graduates and saw the formation of the Law Alumni Network.
